American League Awards

AMERICAN LEAGUE MVP:


Cordero had the most at bats (630), triples (5) and stolen bases (46) among the MVP finalist.



Higginson lead the American League in batting average at .368 and on-base percentage at .447. Higginson had the most hits (204), doubles (42), walks (75), batting average (.368), on-base percentage (.447) and slugging percentage (.620) among the MVP finalist.



Lee tied for the most homeruns with 54. Lee had the most homeruns (54) among the MVP finalist.



Sisk lead the American League in runs with 127 and RBI’s with 152. He also tied for the most homeruns with 54. Sisk had the most runs (127), homeruns (54) and RBI’s (152) among the MVP finalist.



Vazquez had the most strikeouts (122) among the MVP finalist.


AMERICAN LEAGUE CY YOUNG AWARD:


Salinas had the most saves (39) among the Cy Young finalist.


Rath lead the American League in shutouts with 2 and quality stars at 24. He also tied for the lowest opponent batting average at .226. Rath had the most losses (10) among the Cy Young finalist.



Sheets lead the American League in victories with 21, innings pitched 240.0 and strikeouts with 205. Sheets had the most starts (35), wins (21), innings pitched (240.0), hits (246), runs (121), earned runs (96), walks (90) and strikeouts (205) among the Cy Young finalist.



Nitkowski lead the American League in earned run average at 2.46, WHIP at 1.13, lowest opponents on-base percentage at .285, lowest opponents slugging percentage at .319 and strikeouts per nine/innings at 9.34. He also tied for the lowest opponent batting average at .226. Nitkowski had the lowest earned run average (2.46) among the Cy Young finalist.



McClellan had the lowest opponent’s batting average (.190), opponent’s on-base percentage (.252), opponent’s slugging percentage (.278) and WHIP (.91) among the Cy Young finalist.


AMERICAN LEAGUE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD


Haney lead all rookies in wins with 16, innings pitched with 222.2, earned run average with 3.72, WHIP with 1.24 and complete games with 1.



Rodriguez led all rookies in hits with 183 and RBI’s with 124.



Simmons lead all rookies in doubles with 44 which was also the most in the American League, triples with 10, walks with 111, slugging percentage with .565 and OPS with .972.



Darr lead all rookies in homeruns with 40.
