World Series Game 5 Recap

Game 5 of the World Series went to the Monterrey Stars 10-3. The Stars offensive finally was able to make apperance in Atanlta has it seemed like they where still in Monterrey for the first two games. The Stars crushed Larry Rath who gave up 6 earned runs in 7 innings, gave up 8 hits, walked 3 and struckout 4. Also gave up 2 big homeruns. Carmine Taft started again and pitched just as well as his first outing by pitching 5 strong innings, gave up 1 earned run and 4 hits. Struckout 5 batters while walking none and did give up a homerun of his own. But this game wasn't about the pitching it was about the Stars offensive finally coming to life. The Stars got the scoring started in the third inning with Rondell Lowe starting the inning off with a solo homerun then finished with Mike Bonds getting a two RBI double as Ricardo Ramirez and Brain Turner scoring. Wade May for the Vawts countered in the bottom of the third with a solo homerun of his own. In the top of the fourth the Stars struck again with Lowe hitting a two RBI triple following Frank Surtain error on a routine grounder. Lowe came around to score two batters later when Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly. The fifth inning was much better for the Vawts as Jackson Cooper of the Stars hit a two run homerun where it looked like Luis Carreras might have caught it but he timed his jump wrong and jump to soon. In the eighth inning the combination of Lowe and Ramirez struck again as Lowe hit a RBI double and scored of a Ramirez double to make the score 10-1. In the bottom of the eighth the Vawts showed some life as May hit his second homerun of the game. It looked the Vawts would have a good chance to make the game intersting as the Vawts had the bases loaded with no outs but Mac Johnson hit into a double play, they did a run with Morgan Robertson scoring but the double play killed the rally like most double plays do. Now the series head back to Monterrey for game six with the Stars looking to wrap up there back to back World Series Championships.

World Series Game 4 Recap

Game 4 of the World Series went to the Atlanta Brave Vawts 2-1. This series featured another great pitching performance and another close game but the Vawts pulled this one of. Andruw Dunston did a great job of getting through the Stars offensive only allowing 5 hits through out his 8 innings with the only run he allowed was a solo homerun by Mike Sewell in the eighth inning. He also struckout 6 batters against 2 walks. Chris Unroe made the ninth inning intersting with allowing two hits before getting Sewell to ground out to third. Also in the ninth inning was probably the play of the game as third basemen Frank Surtain robbing Clem Barkley with an outstanding diving catch on a hard hit ball down the third base line which probably the Stars might have scored on a sure extra base hit. The scoring started for the Vawts in the third inning as Wade May hit a one out triple then the next batter Nick Collins hit another triple. The third inning almost broke the game wide open as the Vawts had the bases loaded with one out but Mac Johnson grounded into a double play to end the inning. In the sixth inning Luis Carreras the number nine hitter hit a big two out single to score Surtain who led of the inning with a single. This proved to be the game winner and sending this series to a 2-2 tie with the Vawts hosting one more game out home until heading back to Monterrey for game 6.
