Game of the Day 6-11-10

Game of the Day
Charleston 8 - Jackson 6 (14)

Second Chances: Oh, that Pepper Gunderson. It should be said that you should never give a team a second chance and this is the reason why. Two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Jackson up 6-3 and Gunderson missed place a ground ball. The ball must have been on fire because his hand just keep dropping it back into the grass and allowing Charleston catcher to reach base. And then couple batters later the game was tied. I say extra fielding practice for poor Gunderson tomorrow.

The More I Know, The Less I Understand: Harold Turner, that’s right, that Harold Turner who was stolen from San Jose during the Rule 5 Draft crushed a 2-Run homerun to win the game for Charleston. San Jose had no comment about losing Turner.

Buckner would be proud: Jackson has got some leaks in the field. Two out of the three errors by the Blazers allowed runners to score and the game. Something needs to be done soon or it could be a long season in Jackson once again.

They Also Played:

Boston 9 - Dover 3: Games get real easy when you score six runs in the first to innings. If Sam Stone and Jackson Cooper can keep this up the whole year, watch out American League.

Monterrey 3 - Florida 0: Raymond Pavlov just keeps mowing down hitters year after year. 15 innings this season already and 0 runs given up to start the season, is just scary.

Minnesota 17 - Burlington 3: It’s official now Rachel Phelps is now running the team and Miami is calling.

Milwaukee 5 - New Britain 3: Is it time to start panicking in New Britain? I don’t think the people in Milwaukee thought they would be looking up at the Headhunters for first place in the National League North. Baseball is a strange sport.

Philadelphia 8 - Chicago 2: Speaking of Philadelphia. Rico Martinez once again had a nice pitching performance, improving his record to 2-0. The team has been banned to talk with the media during the winning streak. I curse you Philly, I curse you.

Portland 2 - Arizona 1: A nice performance from one of my favorite players “Lucky” Rabbit Kennedy, going six shutout innings, for his first victory of the season.

Anaheim 6 - Vancouver 1: Do you think Anaheim is worried about a bullpen giving up yet another run late in the game? Remember Anaheim about second chances, just ask Jackson about that.

Cleveland 2 - Cincinnati 1: Miguel Martinez pitched his first complete game in eight seasons but the Highlanders offense forgot that there was a game today, giving Martinez a very bad luck lose.

Jacksonville 3 - Kansas City 2: Wilson Fisher right now is having nightmares in the American League. He’s giving up 7 earned runs in only 11.1 innings, for an awful error of 5.40. You have the talent Kansas City, please start playing like it.

Columbus 3 - Iowa City 2: Cristobal Trajano is off to a great rookie season. He crushed his 3 homerun already on the year. Columbus is going to be scary in a couple seasons.

Oklahoma City 3 - Salem 2: Oklahoma City and Salem filling left out that every other game was 3-2, decided to follow the trend for the day and finish with the same score. Bruce Tate had the best game of his young career getting two RBI’s in the victory.

Tacoma 3 - San Jose 2: Must be theme or something. The teams out west really did to get use to scores like this; it’s going to be happening all season. Also news about the game was Robin Lilly punched a water color after the Saints stole two bases against him.  Keep you posted on further developments.

Louisville 4 - Durham 3: I’m so happy the score wasn’t 3-2. “Bad” Bobby Henry was again spoiled the Hitmen’s day crushing a 3-run homerun in the sixth, giving Louisville the big early season win.

New York 11 - St. Louis 0: Hulk Hayes forgot to Hulk Up for this game, because he got crushed. In 1 2/3 inning he gave up 6 runs on 6 hits and 2 homeruns. Look everyone New York has found an offense this season.

Ottawa 6 - Scranton 3: Junior Lui crushed a Grand Slam in the bottom of the eighth and it was a good thing as well because the Ottawa bullpen gave up two runs in the ninth. No word on why Lui skipped around the bases but it sure was funny to see.

Game of the Day 6-10-10

Game of the Night: Anaheim 3 - Portland 2 (10)

Winning Ways: It was the first victory of the season for the Beefpound; it only took two games and 1 extra inning for this to happen. How long can the team keep this up? Can they keep rolling right on through until the All-Star break? Is there a danger in peaking too early? Will rhetorical questions ever not be slightly pretentious?
Marquee Matchup: This game was bound to be good from the start with Ray Cochrane for Portland and Herbert Brandt for the Beefpound. Believe it or not it was a really good game for both pitchers only giving up three runs and six hits between the two. Rodrigo Romero pitched again and once again it was an adventure with three walks but you pulled through without letting in a run.

Gene DeJean Who?: That’s right Gene DeJean. He hit a bloop double in the bottom of the 10th inning bringing home the winning run. Now say this five times fast: Gene DeJean hitting the game winning run. Not as easy as it looks.

They Also Played:

Cincinnati 11 - Boston 6: Oh look at that, Quilvio Hernandez had the game of his life. He went 3-5, 2 homeruns and 8 RBI’s. Let me say that again 8 RBI’s. He hit a two-run homerun and a grand slam. You can figure out the rest.

Iowa City 7 - New York 0: Show of hands who found the result of this game surprising? Now tell me if any thought Josias Santiago was capable of hitting two homeruns in a game?

Louisville 5 - Jacksonville 4(11): Not the start Jacksonville was hoping for. Nice job by Bobby Henry for smacking a game winning home run in the top of the 11th inning. Will we see him in the Hall of Fame?

Vancouver 7 - Arizona 5: Four runs in the last two innings for Arizona but it to little to late to pull out the victory. F.P. Frank had the best game of his young career, getting four hits.

Philadelphia 4 - New Britain 2: This probably isn't how the team from New Britain drew this one up. Losing two straight games to Philadelphia can’t sit well with the team. Can’t see New Britain losing three straight to Philadelphia can you?

Charleston 5 - Florida 3: Things got happy in the Charleston, winning there first game of the season. Now if they can figure out how the drive home the runners there leaving on base, things would look better.

Durham 9 - Kansas City 5: Word to Bo Bennett. As a closer your job is to save the game, not let the other team win.

Ottawa 8 - Minnesota 5: The Rangers pulled away with a four-run first inning and never looked back. It’s going to be another long summer in Minnesota, but at least it’s not winter.

Cleveland 3 - Dover 1: Let's be honest, you guys mocked me when I said Cleveland will make the playoffs didn’t you.?

Monterrey 6 - Jackson 5: Another game against a divisional rival and another win for the Stars. They should rename the division to the National League Stars.

Scranton 8 - Burlington 4: I think Scranton could have sent there Triple-A and still won against Burlington.

Columbus 8 - St. Louis 5 (10): I really don’t know how to say this without hurting your feelings but Harold Smith, YOUR DONE. HANG THEM UP. Oh and Cristobal Trajano had a perfect 4-4 night.

San Jose 7 - Salem 3: Buzz Jones gets his first victory of the season. It’s still too early to start talking about the Cy Young for though.

Tacoma 1 - Oklahoma City 0: Tacoma winning a game 1-0. Don’t think will see that again this season.

Milwaukee 9 - Chicago 0: Danny Harding the early favorite for the MVP? I think so.

Game of the Day

Game of the Night: San Jose 3 - Salem 2

Do you know the way to San Jose: A fine pitcher's duel went on out west, where it should be a normal occurrence this season. Unfortunately for Cam Mann and Aaron Hernandez, the great pitching performances left them with a no decision as the game went into extra innings.. Mann held a perfect game into the seventh inning until Jose Gonzalez rudely ended that with a blast of the right-centerfield wall. Mann finished the game with 7 innings pitched, 1 run, 1 hit, 0 walks and 9 strikeouts.

Sisk to the rescue: It sure didn’t take long for Eric Sisk to show the fans in San Jose why he was signed during the off-season. With a one-out in the bottom of the 14th, he crushed the ball over Pablo Lee’s head, bringing in the runs and enjoying a nice shave cream shower as he headed into the dugout.

Missed Chances: All night Salem had there chances to blow the game wide open leaving 26 runners on base. By the end of the Fifth inning, Salem had 4 hits and 5 walks but only one run to show for it. Nick Dunn had an adventurous 14th inning featuring a 2 walks, a passed ball, only one strikeouts and the game winning hit to Sisk.

Team also playing

Philadelphia 1 - New Britain 0: A first inning run by Philadelphia was all it took. Aaron Hodges had to leave the game early, injury unknown at this time.

New York 7 - Iowa City 4: Shane Clayton imploded giving up a homerun, 2 singles and for good measure hitting a batter, but to be fare to him an error extended the inning giving New York a chance to take the game to extra innings. Tito Nakamura, the younger brother of Mac Nakamura losing the game, in his first major league game, giving up 2 runs, 2 hits and getting a strike out. Unknown if Mac will claim him as is brother after that performance or not.

Portland 8 - Anaheim 6: Anaheim is in trouble already as Rodrigo Romero blew another save for the team. After blowing 13 saves last season the team expected this could be a turn around year for him but giving up 2 runs in a third of an inning is not the turn around the team was hoping for. Santiago Mesa could be the final nail in the coffin of Romero closing again this season after Mesa crushed a homerun of him.

Florida 4 - Charleston 0: The game boiled down to this, 41 men left of base combined for both teams. I guess the runners where afraid of home plate during the game.

Scranton 8 - Burlington 3: The destruction of Burlington is still underway, Rachel Phelps should be buying the team any minute now and moving them to Miami at the end of the year.

Cleveland 10 - Dover 5: Harley Ray had the game of his life belting two homeruns. After the game when asked why it took so long for him to make the majors, he responded that his only goal was to be the Minor League Homerun Champ. Living the dream people, living the dream.

Durham 8 - Kansas City 0: Wilson Fisher welcome to the American League. That’s all we need to say about that.
