Game of the Day 6-16-10

Game of the Day
Iowa City 3 - Monterrey 2

Brook Diaz: Diaz seems to have finally found the swing that once made him a great power hitter. With the Foxhounds down a run, Diaz crushed a two-run homerun off Norman Jordan. Reports say it was at least 500 feet as landed somewhere in the parking lot.

The Old-Timers game: The game was pitched by William Adcock (38) for the Foxhounds and Raymond Pavlov (33) for the Stars. Combined they have 305 victories, 669 games pitched as well. Both pitched well during the game but neither won got the victory.

They Also Played ...

Burlington 5 - Arizona 1: A quote from Bombers Mangment, "Objects in your mirror are closer than they appear.” A quote from the Arizona Sting management, “What the Hell is going on!”

Florida 6 - Milwaukee 5: It’s not very exciting to drive in the winning run from a sac fly but Dick Mancuso and the Sizzlers will take them anyway they can.

Ottawa 7 - Durham 1: Mark Brantley hasn’t pitched well so far this season but a complete, one run effort could be the start of something great for him. Are you thinking szekrenyi wishes he was back in Houston right now.

Columbus 6 - Salem 4: Salem tried to make a comeback in the ninth inning but it was too little. Perfect example as to why you need those insurance runs.

San Jose 5 - St. Louis 2: I’m still with you Hulk Hayes but you need to win a game soon.

New York 11 - Jackson 6: Told you New York would be scary with an offense.

Philadelphia 3 - Tacoma 1: Nice job by Philly to stop the Tacoma winning streak.

Anaheim 6 - Boston 2: Everything bad I said against Anaheim’s bullpen I take back. And Boston I think it’s time for Eddie Drew to be taken to the glue factory.

Scranton 10 - Vancouver 3: That guy who picked Scranton to win the American League North, I like that guy.

Cincinnati 3 - Portland 2: It was Kid Glove day at the ballpark in Portland today. Must have given the kid gloves to the players as well, because I’ve seen better fielding in little league.

Louisville 7 - Dover 6: Diego Valentin is making the team rethink there Rule-5 draft pick already. 1-3 with an error close to 10 will make manager very unhappy.

New Britain 5 - Oklahoma City 2: Told you not to panic in New Britain, I knew the team would turn around.

Charleston 8 - Chicago 5: Well someone had to win the game.

Kansas City 4 - Minnesota 1: Jeremi Selby has started two games and is now 2-0 on the season. Why did it take so long to get him in the rotation Kansas City?

Jacksonville 5 - Cleveland 1: Have you ever seen a player that was this happy to leave Tacoma then Tommy Mientkiewicz?

Game of the Day 6-15-10

Game of the Day
Dover 16 - Burlington 15

What ever you can do, I can do better: That was the motto for Dover today. Every time Burlington scored, Dover seemed to have an answer. Burlington scored 5 in the first, well so did Dover and then 4 more in the second. Burlington takes a 9-7 lead in the fifth, Dover quickly get’s two back in the bottom of the fifth and then 2 more in the 7th. Give up 4 runs in the top of the ninth and find yourself in the 2 run deficit, no problem when you can get 3 back and the victory in the bottom of the ninth.

Free passes for everyone: It’s hard to say anything positive about a pitching staff that gave up 13 walks and 15 hits in only a 9 inning game, but when it comes down to it, a win is a win. Stone Punto should have call in sick because he gave up 9 runs in 3 innings of work, including 8 hits and 5 walks.

Burlington’s pain: Despite a great effort from the team, the pitching staff just couldn’t finish the game. The team would love for Magglio Salinas to find his form that once made him a top closer in game.

They also played...

Tacoma 4 - Chicago 2: Luis Barajas pitched another strong game, going 7 innings and striking out 13 Chicago batters.

Jackson 9 - St. Louis 1: The game was close with Jackson only up 2-1 going the 8th. That quickly changed when Jackson scored 7 runs in the top of the 8th. Hulk Hayes falls to 0-3 but pitched well only given up 2 runs in 5 innings of work.

San Jose 11 - Florida 1: Do you think San Jose offense was happy to play somewhere else besides the west coast?

Monterrey 2 - Columbus 1: Sandy Blackmon was seen crying after the game in the dug-out. Allowing a pass ball with a runner on third and first, to allow the winning run would make me cry as well.

Anaheim 12 - Kansas City 6: Placing bets on when Wilson Fisher will pick up his first win the American League. Record so far is 0-4, with a horrible 7.32 ERA.

Ottawa 11 - Vancouver 0: Junior Lui is hot to start the season. He’s hitting .484 and has 20 RBI’s already. MVP chats are beginning to make waves around the ballpark already.

Durham 4 - Portland 3: With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning and no outs, Durham needs to thank the baseball gods for only allowing 3 runs to score. Will the real Lonnie Rizzo please stand up?

Oklahoma City 5 - Milwaukee 4: It wasn’t pretty but Oklahoma wins again. Moises Montero pitched the last two innings to pick up his first save of the year.

Cincinnati 7 - Jacksonville 2: It’s not hard for Cincinnati to win games when Shawn Long crushed 2 homeruns and Vin Ramirez shuts down the other teams offense to pick up his 3rd victory of the season.

Salem 2 - Charleston 1: Word to Charleston; Peter Webster can’t do everything. Despite his 0-3 record he pitched 7 strong innings and hit homerun for the teams only run. I hate to say this but you can’t win a lot of games if you’re looking at your pitcher to produce the runs as well.

Cleveland 14 - Scranton 3: Game of a lifetime for Ossie Martin. 3-4 with 6 RBI’s isn’t too, shabby considering he only had 2 RBI’s entering the game.

Minnesota 8 - Arizona 6: You know things are going well for you when you lead-off hitter hit’s two homeruns. Minnesota’s bullpen almost folded in the ninth but they found a way to save the game in the end.

Philadelphia 4 - Iowa City 3: Philadelphia has cold down from a nice start to the season. No matter what the team does the rest of the way, things are looking up for them.

Louisville 7 - Boston 3: Not many times will you see Boston tie the game in the ninth inning on a fielders choice, makes you wonder why the infield wasn’t in to protect the one-run led in the first place. It’s doesn’t matter as Julio Cruz crushed a two-run homerun to give Louisville the victory.

Game of the Day 6-11-10

Game of the Day
Charleston 8 - Jackson 6 (14)

Second Chances: Oh, that Pepper Gunderson. It should be said that you should never give a team a second chance and this is the reason why. Two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Jackson up 6-3 and Gunderson missed place a ground ball. The ball must have been on fire because his hand just keep dropping it back into the grass and allowing Charleston catcher to reach base. And then couple batters later the game was tied. I say extra fielding practice for poor Gunderson tomorrow.

The More I Know, The Less I Understand: Harold Turner, that’s right, that Harold Turner who was stolen from San Jose during the Rule 5 Draft crushed a 2-Run homerun to win the game for Charleston. San Jose had no comment about losing Turner.

Buckner would be proud: Jackson has got some leaks in the field. Two out of the three errors by the Blazers allowed runners to score and the game. Something needs to be done soon or it could be a long season in Jackson once again.

They Also Played:

Boston 9 - Dover 3: Games get real easy when you score six runs in the first to innings. If Sam Stone and Jackson Cooper can keep this up the whole year, watch out American League.

Monterrey 3 - Florida 0: Raymond Pavlov just keeps mowing down hitters year after year. 15 innings this season already and 0 runs given up to start the season, is just scary.

Minnesota 17 - Burlington 3: It’s official now Rachel Phelps is now running the team and Miami is calling.

Milwaukee 5 - New Britain 3: Is it time to start panicking in New Britain? I don’t think the people in Milwaukee thought they would be looking up at the Headhunters for first place in the National League North. Baseball is a strange sport.

Philadelphia 8 - Chicago 2: Speaking of Philadelphia. Rico Martinez once again had a nice pitching performance, improving his record to 2-0. The team has been banned to talk with the media during the winning streak. I curse you Philly, I curse you.

Portland 2 - Arizona 1: A nice performance from one of my favorite players “Lucky” Rabbit Kennedy, going six shutout innings, for his first victory of the season.

Anaheim 6 - Vancouver 1: Do you think Anaheim is worried about a bullpen giving up yet another run late in the game? Remember Anaheim about second chances, just ask Jackson about that.

Cleveland 2 - Cincinnati 1: Miguel Martinez pitched his first complete game in eight seasons but the Highlanders offense forgot that there was a game today, giving Martinez a very bad luck lose.

Jacksonville 3 - Kansas City 2: Wilson Fisher right now is having nightmares in the American League. He’s giving up 7 earned runs in only 11.1 innings, for an awful error of 5.40. You have the talent Kansas City, please start playing like it.

Columbus 3 - Iowa City 2: Cristobal Trajano is off to a great rookie season. He crushed his 3 homerun already on the year. Columbus is going to be scary in a couple seasons.

Oklahoma City 3 - Salem 2: Oklahoma City and Salem filling left out that every other game was 3-2, decided to follow the trend for the day and finish with the same score. Bruce Tate had the best game of his young career getting two RBI’s in the victory.

Tacoma 3 - San Jose 2: Must be theme or something. The teams out west really did to get use to scores like this; it’s going to be happening all season. Also news about the game was Robin Lilly punched a water color after the Saints stole two bases against him.  Keep you posted on further developments.

Louisville 4 - Durham 3: I’m so happy the score wasn’t 3-2. “Bad” Bobby Henry was again spoiled the Hitmen’s day crushing a 3-run homerun in the sixth, giving Louisville the big early season win.

New York 11 - St. Louis 0: Hulk Hayes forgot to Hulk Up for this game, because he got crushed. In 1 2/3 inning he gave up 6 runs on 6 hits and 2 homeruns. Look everyone New York has found an offense this season.

Ottawa 6 - Scranton 3: Junior Lui crushed a Grand Slam in the bottom of the eighth and it was a good thing as well because the Ottawa bullpen gave up two runs in the ninth. No word on why Lui skipped around the bases but it sure was funny to see.
